The University of Minnesota Office for Business & Community Economic Development (BCED) hosted its annual Junior Entrepreneurs of Minnesota (jEM) summer program from June 22 - July 24, 2015 at the Robert J. Jones Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center in North Minneapolis. The program was designed to introduce high school students to the basics of entrepreneurship and leadership. Throughout this five-week program, Minneapolis high school students will engage in active learning sessions that cover business fundamentals and personal development. The program develops students’ entrepreneurship capabilities, with an emphasis in leadership, teamwork and communication skills. Students also become familiar with potential career options and higher education opportunities.

The program is offered by the Office for Business & Community Economic Development (BCED) and is sponsored by various corporate, government and non-profit organizations, as well as University colleges.

In addition to exercises and interactive discussions, students worked on two application projects during the 2015 program:

  • A service learning project within the Minneapolis community
  • A business pitch that will showcase students' new skills and entrepreneurial ideas

Throughout the program, leading Minnesota entrepreneurs will share their personal experiences and advice with students. jEM is a truly unique opportunity for the best and the brightest individuals to learn about business, leadership and social responsibility in a dynamic setting.
