Series of workshops, unConferences, and roundtables we have held in the past designed to educate and inspire a community of entrepreneurs.

All business workshops are at the Robert J. Jones Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC), located in North Minneapolis. The full address is 2001 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN, 55411.

 

Be Your Own Boss: Whether you are just thinking of starting your own business or you want to implement your entrepreneurial dreams, our Be Your Own Boss coursework focuses on critical areas of planning, effective operations, financial management and life-style considerations for a successful career as a business owner. Our three hour course offers a brief insight into business ownership that allows one to map out goals and objectives for entering the world of a business entrepreneur. Class Topics Include: A real world guide to understanding business ownership basics; An introduction into why so many new ventures fail; and An opportunity to weigh the pros and cons of self-employment to decide what role is right for you now.

Business Model Canvas: The Business Model Canvas is a strategic management and entrepreneurial tool. It allows you to describe, design, challenge, invent, and pivot your business model. As compared to the traditional business plan, the canvas helps organizations conduct structured, tangible, and strategic conversations around new businesses or existing ones. The canvas's main objective is to help companies move beyond product-centric thinking and towards business model thinking. If you already have an existing business, you can use the canvas to further refine your business model to help ensure maximum effectiveness. We provide you with your own canvas to enhance your business planning strategies.

Concept to Plan - Learn How to Write a Business Plan: Discover the crucial tools and skills to develop and plan a viable, sustainable business. Within 5 weeks, you will create your own business plan!

Discover the Power of Mobile: The average smartphone usage grew 81% in 2012, with 87% of American adults owning a cell phone. Mobile device usage is skyrocketing, yet many organizations do not have mobilized websites. Ben Theis, of Skol Marketing, will speak on how to utilize the mobile web effectively. Stream your Hangout On Air publicly on Google+, your YouTube channel and your website. Learn how to use YouTube, Skype and Ustream to communicate and increase your business or nonprofit. Develop and create unique content for your web presence by utilizing Google+ Hangouts on Air! These tools will help you increase your business and your reach. Workshop Topics: What is Google+?; What are Hangouts On Air?; How do I use HOAs?; and How can HOAs help enhance my online presence?

Hands-on QuickBooks - Running Your Business with QuickBooks: This workshop is a hands-on QuickBooks training course that gives you 9 hours of QuickBooks computer training! Class Topics Include: Creating new company files; Setting up key lists; Writing and printing checks; Making deposits & reconciling accounts; Entering employee records for payroll; Entering and paying bills; Setting up 1099 vendors; Entering timesheets; Creating customer estimates and invoices; Receiving & depositing payments; Preparing for payroll processing; Creating paychecks; Year-end activities; and Payroll tax deposits.

Hands-on Social Media: Learn how to utilize social media to increase your business's revenue. We will teach you how to expand and develop your brand using Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn.

Facebook - One of the largest social networking platforms, with almost 500 million active users. People spend around 700 billion minutes on Facebook per month.

LinkedIn - The world's largest professional network with millions of members. It allows one to reconnect with colleagues and learn about other companies.

Twitter - 5 to 10 thousand new people join every day. Open your door to new markets by attracting
and connecting for free! Listen, learn and share with customers.

Google + - Allows a company to be found on Google, and puts you where your followers are. It also assists in the analysis of data for missed profit opportunities.

Increase Your Visibility on Twitter: Twitter is a relationship-building and relationship maintenance tool with over 500 million users. Discover the ways to set-up  and use Twitter as an effective business marketing tool. This workshop is for beginner to moderate users and does not teach advanced strategies. Here’s what you will learn: Discovering micro-blogging; Learning how to set up your account properly; Understanding Twitter language; Discovering Twitter's potential for business; Finding and identifying your target audience; Strategy to build a following; and Twitter tools.

This is a hands-on workshop in our computer lab, so you do not need to bring your computer, just your Twitter login information.

LinkedIn for Businesses: It is possible to stand out from the crowd, get more quality leads, and stay top of mind with the decision makers when you know how to use LinkedIn correctly & strategically. Workshop Takeaways: How to create a powerful  profile to stand out from the crowd; How to invite, vet and attract the right connections; Discover how to navigate all the new features of LinkedIn; Understand what LinkedIn can do for you; and How to get better results in less time.

ObamaCare - Solutions for Your Business: Learn how to control health insurance costs while protecting your employees. One Page Business Plan: The One Page Business Plan is a concise blueprint that describes the business being built, how it will be built, what work will be done, and how it will be measured. This workshop is usually combined with the Business Model Canvas workshop.

Bing - Delivers fast and relevant search results and creates specialized searches for Bing Finance, Bing Local, Bing Social, Bing Events, and more.
