MTAP Consulting Project Application for Students

Sponsored by the University of Minnesota's
Office for Business & Community Economic Development

The Office for Business & Community Economic Development (BCED) partners with the U of M graduate and professional programs in business, human resources, law, computer science, economic development, nonprofit management and public health to offer this unique program.  This program is designed to help community-based nonprofits and small businesses, which serve Minnesota communities.

The Management & Technical Assistance Program (MTAP) strives to improve the quality of life in Minnesota’s urban communities by enhancing the performance and overall effectiveness of community-based nonprofits and small businesses.  MTAP focuses on helping these organizations build capacity and improve service delivery, as well as assisting them in accomplishing critical management and operational objectives.

This program also gives students the opportunity to gain consulting experience working with diverse nonprofits and small businesses while the clients receive services that directly influence their success.

Student Consulting Projects will be offered during the fall and spring semesters.  The BCED Program Manager receives applications for the program, and then matches qualifying clients with student consultants. One or more students are assigned to a project, depending on the scope and type of project that is requested.

Graduate and Professional students enrolled at the University of Minnesota in the following schools are eligible and encouraged to participate in the MTAP Student Projects:  Public Health, Social Work, Medical School, Carlson School of Management, IT/Computer Science, Law School, Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs and all other graduate and professional schools on the Twin Cities campus.
