Equity and Diversity Breakfast

Crowd shot of Equity and Diversity BreakfastThe University of Minnesota's sixth annual Equity and Diversity Breakfast was held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the McNamara Alumni Center. We brought together the University community and external stakeholders—alumni, donors, community organizations, and corporate entities—to recognize the students, faculty, and staff doing the work, and to reaffirm the University’s commitment to equity and diversity.

We also recognized the outstanding students that received Scholarly Excellence in Equity and Diversity (SEED) Awards.

The Outstanding Unit Award for Equity and Diversity was also presented at the Breakfast to the Department of American Studies and Student Unions and Activities.  Congratulations to these two outstanding departments!

Gallery of Excellence

In previous years, OED invited students and units across campuses to showcase diversity efforts—including coursework, programs and services that support equity and diversity efforts—in the annual Gallery of Excellence. In 2012, the focus shifted to highlight faculty research. OED invited deans from all collegiate units on the Twin Cities, and the Offices of the Chancellor on coordinate campuses, to highlight their faculty’s diversity and equity research as part of the Breakfast’s Gallery of Excellence. An enormous amount of excellent scholarly work around equity and diversity issues is conducted at the University of Minnesota.  We know our faculty engage in innovative, groundbreaking and engaged research that results in transformational scholarship that addresses urgent social issues. Simply stated, we believe diversity drives discovery. This year’s Gallery of Excellence provided an opportunity to showcase University of Minnesota faculty’s research strength and creative capacity that enables the U to fulfill its public land-grant mission.
