About Caribbean American Heritage Month
Caribbean American Heritage Month celebrates the rich culture, history and contributions of Americans with roots in the Caribbean. The Caribbean islands are multicultural and multi-ethnic, with ancestries that include indigenous, African, Asian, European, and Latino or Hispanic — resulting in a unique blend of cuisines, music, art, customs and traditions.
In June 2005, the House of Representatives unanimously adopted H. Con. Res. 71, recognizing the significance of Caribbean people and their descendants in the history and culture of the United States. On February 14, 2006, the resolution similarly passed the Senate, with a Proclamation issued by former President George W. Bush on June 6, 2006.
