Student Excellence in Academics and Multiculturalism (SEAM)

The Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence (MCAE) at the University of Minnesota strives to prepare students to become leaders in a multicultural and constantly changing society. The Student Excellence in Academics and Multiculturalism (SEAM) program offers students the opportunity to explore multicultural perspectives and disciplines in a variety of courses of all levels offered in different colleges across campus.  This is done primarily with the help of faculty members interested in exposing students to social justice and multiculturalism.

SEAM designated courses do not alter the curriculum or a class; for faulty and instructors, it simply means that the class will be heavily advertised to underrepresented students, students of color and those who are interested in learning to be leaders in a multicultural setting. Our goal is to increase racial diversity in the classroom in order to provide a safe place for students of all races to contribute to the richness of conversations about culture, race, and social justice issues.

**Students registering for any SEAM designated class will have the choice to opt out of the program during our initial visit to the classroom the first week of school. Those who are interested in participating will have the opportunity to take advantage of the benefits that the program has to offer***
