Announcement of Program Pause for 2013-2014
The Women’s Center would like to thank you for your continued support, participation and ongoing interest in the Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI). Sadly, we need to share that we are currently not able to offer the Women’s Leadership Institute every year. However, we will continue to offer WLI on a biennial (every other year) basis.
During the years where WLI will not be offered, we will coordinate the Women R.E.A.D- (Reading for Equity and Diversity) program. Both programs—the WLI and Women R.E.A.D—provide useful tools for women’s professional development and leadership. In addition, you may look to the University Professional (UP!) Circles and the President’s Excellence in Leadership (PEL) Program as other University venues for professional development.
We hope you’ll join us for Women Reading for Equity And Diversity for the 2013-2014 academic year, and consider applying for the Women’s Leadership Institute for 2014-2015 in the spring of 2014.
(Please note that we will hold one WLI Alumnae session during 2013-2014, which will be open to all previous participants of the program.)
The Women's Leadership Institute offers University staff and faculty women an opportunity to grow as leaders. Each year, a group of participants meets monthly to encourage self-reflection and learn from each other's skills and experiences. Members come from supervisory, management, and administrative leadership positions throughout the University, creating a unique learning community that continues beyond the duration of the program.
Monthly meetings include a combination of guest speakers, reflection, and group discussion. Guest speakers are senior women leaders at the University, offering participants a valuable opportunity to hear their stories and learn from their experiences. Combined with outside readings and networking activities, these meetings offer participants a chance to cultivate leadership skills within a community of mutual learning and support.
Women's Leadership Institute activities begin in September and end with a June reception for current and past participants.
Key components of the WLI include:
- Kick-off retreat (full-day session in September)
- Monthly meetings (2.5 hours)
- Opportunities to network with other women leaders
- Opportunities for self-reflection and personal growth
- Annual WLI Alumnae events for current and past participants
